It would seem that the efficiency of various machines, to include SUVs and appliances, can have a practical limit of maybe a 20% improvement. And that would be the most that could ever achieved; meaning, it is not even worth pursuing.
It would seem that reducing the birth rate by 20% would achieve the same reduction in greenhouse gas emissions over a three generation period, and would have the added benefit of compounding (like compound interest) over the long term. As fewer and fewer people are born, the impact to the environment by the diminishing population is less and less.
I can’t see how any other solution would work more efficiently.
